Urology deals with diseases of the urinary organs in females; and in males, their urinary system and reproductive organs.
Both men and women may suffer from Overactive Bladder (OAB). Additionally, men may also suffer from Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Many sufferers feel embarrassed when these problems happen to them and shy away from treatment.
Those with OAB will find treatment for symptoms such as urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. For BPH, treatment is available for both obstructive and irritative symptoms. Many men and their partners have benefited from the treatment of ED, a condition which affects the men’s ability to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. There is also a close link between ED and future CVD events. Early diagnosis and treatment for ED is encouraged.
We also encourage patients to make small changes in their everyday habits including exercise, together with a balanced and healthy diet, stopping or cutting back on smoking and drinking alcohol, and managing cholesterol and blood pressure. These changes may help and work with medication.
