In December 2004, the tsunami hit coastal areas of two northern states - Kedah and Penang.
This was a very tragic event and a time when all in Pfizer Malaysia were keen to do their
bit truly demonstrate our commitment to the community where we work and operate.
In keeping with the spirit of our Community core value,Pfizer Malaysia donated RM100,000 towards
the National Tsunami Disaster Fund. The company also donated medication, toiletries and clothes
towards the victims.
To further help the victims of the tsunami, Pfizer Malaysia staff initiated the Pfizer Tsunami
Appeal Drive. Through generous donations from staff which was then matched by the management, a
total of RM 70,000 was raised. Part of the funds have been channeled towards addressing the
short-term needs of the fisherman of Pulau Betong and Tanjung Bungah through the donation of fishing
nets in March 2005 and assistance for boat repairs in May 2005. The remaining funds went towards the
purchase of two boats for the fisherman of Kuala Muda.
